Anti-Bullying Week 2010

Anti-Bullying Week 2010 is coming closer, the theme being “working together”.

According to the National Bullying Survey, more than half of those who reported being bullied had been physically hurt (parents report over 71%); 34% of those physically hurt required attention from a doctor or hospital.

Within the book “bullied” a whole chapter is devoted to the issue of personal safety and aggressive confrontation. Our website provides an online confrontational tutorial that aims to help people consider confrontation from a different perspective.

Beatbullying found that up to 44% of suicides among 10- to 14-year-olds may be bullying-related.The charity said 26 out of the 59 cases reported in the national media were linked to intimidating behaviour.

Our website has information regarding suicide.Childline said more than 1,000 children who rang its helpline felt suicidal over problems such as abuse, bullying, stress and low self-esteem.

The research to date regarding the practice of mindfulness based cognitive therapy (mindfulness meditation) is very convincing. Meditation has shown (over 100 studies) to reduce incidence of depression, suicidal thinking and stress. Within the book “bullied” a chapter is devoted to meditation.  The website contains a video broadcast from Deepak Chopra.

Dr Chopra is America’s well known mind body expert.

What we know about teenage partner violence testifies to its serious consequences for the wellbeing of victims and their future life prospects (Tangney et al 1992; Harway and Liss 1999; Smith et al 2003). US research has also identified that teenage partner violence is associated with a range of adverse outcomes for young people, including mental health, depression and suicide (Silverman et al 2001; Collin-Vézina et al 2006).

Studies indicate that adolescent partner violence is strongly associated with experiencing domestic violence in adulthood (O'Leary et al 1989; Cleveland et al 2003).The book “bullied” devotes a small chapter to intimate partner violence, within our website our sister book advises victims of partner violence.

Our book “safe” has sold over 7000 copies and is used across Police Services across England and Wales.“Bullied” and “Safe” have been given to more than 10,000 victims across the UK. The books are not for profit and are priced at a very reasonable rate. In preparation for Anti Bullying Week 2010, we are offering bulk orders of our books at highly discounted prices.
