Stop burglars in their tracks

Did you know that 35% of burglaries are committed in homes that aren't locked?

Here are two things you can do stop opportunistic burglars: you can adopt a burglar's way of thinking; and you can take the Home Office's new quiz to find out how your home measures up.

The Home Office has a new website on how to secure your home. Here are some of their tips for how you can keep your home safe:

 ·         beware of bogus callers; keep your door closed, use your spy hole and chain and locks

·         burglar-proof your home with the Home Office's guide to home security ·         keep your keys in a safe place, not near the doors or in the locks

·         maintain your doors and frames, keep them strong

·         label your property

·         use exterior security lighting
